Rosterbook helps small employers and households track staff attendance with GPS check-in
and run simple monthly payroll — for drivers, house help, cooks, and small teams.
Contact us
Can't find your issue below, or still stuck? We're happy to help and usually reply within 1–2 business days.
Common messages you may see on the sign-in or sign-up screen, and what to do.
Can I sign in with Google or Apple?
Yes — you can create your account or sign in with Google or Apple instead of an email and
password. Use the same method every time: if you signed up with Google, sign in with Google
(not email/password), otherwise you may end up in a separate empty account.
Email or password is incorrect.
Double-check for typos, extra spaces, or caps lock. If you're sure it's right, use “Forgot password”
on the sign-in screen to reset it by email.
An account with this email already exists — sign in instead.
You (or your employer, if this is a staff account) already signed up with this email. Switch to
“Sign in” instead of creating a new account, or reset your password if you don't remember it.
Password should be at least 6 characters.
Choose a longer password when creating your account. This is a minimum enforced by our authentication
provider.
Network error. Check your connection and try again.
Your device couldn't reach our servers. Check Wi-Fi/mobile data, try switching between the two, and
try again.
Too many attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.
Several failed sign-in attempts in a row temporarily lock further tries as a security precaution. Wait
a few minutes before retrying, or reset your password.
I forgot my password.
On the sign-in screen, use “Forgot password” to receive a reset email. If it doesn't arrive within a
few minutes, check spam/junk, confirm you're using the same email your account was created with, and
contact us if it still doesn't show up.
The app asks me to accept the Privacy Policy / Terms again.
We occasionally update these documents. Existing users are asked to review and accept the latest
version once, the next time they open the app after an update — this doesn't affect your data or
require you to do anything else.
Joining with an invite code
For staff joining an employer's account, and Managers joining an employer's team.
How does a staff member join?
The employer adds the employee (or Manager) in the app and shares a one-time invite code from their
profile. The staff member installs Rosterbook, creates an account, and enters the code to link it to
the employer.
Could not link your account — check the code and try again.
Invite codes are one-time use and tied to a specific employee or Manager profile. Common causes: the
code was already used, it was mistyped (the app automatically uppercases it, but check for
look-alikes like 0/O or 1/I), or it expired.
Ask your employer to open your profile and share the invite code again.
I entered a code but nothing happens / it tries the wrong role.
The app first tries your code as an employee code, and if that fails, tries it as a Manager invite —
this can take a moment on a slow connection. If it still fails after a few seconds, re-check the code
with your employer.
Check-in, check-out & location
Rosterbook reads your device's GPS location only at the moment you check in or
out, to confirm you're at an assigned work site — never in the background.
Location permission needed
Rosterbook can't read your GPS position without permission. Grant "While using the app" (foreground)
location access in your device's Settings → Apps → Rosterbook → Permissions, then try checking in
again.
Outside · nearest [site name] N m
You're outside every assigned work site's geofence — the app shows the closest one and how far away
you are. Move closer to the site, wait a few seconds for GPS to settle (accuracy can drift indoors or
near tall buildings), or ask your employer to check the site's location and radius under Locations
if you believe you're actually on-site.
My GPS location looks wrong or jumps around.
This is usually a device GPS accuracy issue — common indoors, in basements, near large buildings, or
with location mode set to "Battery saving" on Android. Step outside or near a window, and set your
device's location mode to "High accuracy"/"Precise location" if available.
Check-in is rejected even though I'm clearly on-site, and I use a "fake GPS" or location-spoofing app.
Rosterbook detects mocked/spoofed location and rejects check-ins that use it, to keep attendance
records honest. Turn off any mock-location / developer "Allow mock locations" setting and use your
device's real GPS.
Saved offline — your punch will sync when you're back online.
No connection was available at the moment you checked in/out, so the app queued it on your device.
It syncs automatically the next time you have a connection and open the app — you don't need to
check in again. Don't uninstall the app or clear its storage before it syncs, or the queued punch
will be lost.
Punch not recorded / Punch failed
A generic failure, usually from a server or connectivity issue rather than location. Try again after
a few seconds; if it keeps happening, contact us with the approximate time it occurred so we can
check the logs.
Someone forgot to check out.
The shift auto-closes at the employee's standard hours after the configured day-rollover time (default
9 AM). If they actually worked longer, the employer can add the extra time when correcting the entry,
or the employee can log it as overtime for approval.
Face check (where enabled)
Some employers turn on an optional face-check step to confirm the person checking
in/out is the enrolled employee. This section only applies if your employer has enabled it.
How do I set up (enrol) my face?
If your employer has enabled face check, open your profile in the app and choose "Face
check", then follow the prompts to capture your face. Your employer or a Manager approves
the enrolment once; after that, a quick face scan at check-in confirms it's you. The scan
is done on your own phone and is never uploaded to us.
Your face wasn't detected clearly. Try again.
Happens during enrolment or check-in if the camera couldn't get a clear read. Move somewhere with
even lighting (avoid strong backlight/window behind you), hold the phone steady at eye level, and
make sure your full face is in frame without a mask or sunglasses.
We couldn't match your face. Please try again in good light.
Shown at check-in when the fresh photo doesn't match your enrolled face closely enough. Try again in
better lighting. If this keeps failing, your employer may need to re-enroll your face (for example,
if your enrolled photo is outdated or lighting conditions where you check in are consistently poor).
Enrollment failed
Usually a temporary connectivity issue while saving the enrolment. Retry; if it persists, contact us.
How do I remove/reset my face enrolment?
Your face pattern is stored only on your own device, not on our servers. An employer or Manager
with the right permissions can turn off or reset an employee's face enrolment from their profile,
after which the employee can enrol again. Turning face check off, re-enrolling, or deleting the
account clears the stored face data.
Shifts, overtime & manual entries
How do overnight shifts work?
Work past midnight is attributed to the day the shift started, up to the employer's configured "day
rollover hour" (default 9 AM) in Settings. If the check-out happens after rollover without being
closed, the shift auto-closes at standard hours and any extra time needs employer approval.
Enter a time / Please enter your check-out time like 20:00.
When logging a "still working" check-out time manually, enter it in 24-hour HH:MM format
(e.g. 20:00, not "8pm").
How does Manual attendance work for a missed punch?
Employers can enter a day manually for staff who lost their phone or forgot to punch. For an
overnight shift, enter the check-out as the clock time it actually ended (e.g. 01:30) — Rosterbook
rolls it to the next day automatically.
Conveyance and overtime show as "sent for approval" — now what?
These require the employer or an authorised Manager to approve them (Approvals screen) before they
count toward pay. Ask your employer to review pending approvals if it's been a while.
Setting up work locations (employers)
No match for that address. Try adding the city or a nearby landmark.
Shown when searching for an address while adding a work location and nothing is found. Add more
detail (city, area, or a nearby landmark), or skip the search and tap directly on the map to place
the pin.
Location permission needed (while adding a location)
To use "current location" when creating a work site, grant location permission to Rosterbook in your
device settings, then try again — or place the pin manually on the map instead.
Tap the map to set the location
A work location needs a pinned map position before it can be saved. Search for an address or tap the
map to set one.
Staff say they're "outside" the site even though they're there.
The site's pin may be slightly off, or its check-in radius may be too small for GPS accuracy at that
spot (indoors, dense urban areas). Open the location and adjust the pin position or widen the radius.
Subscriptions & billing
Plus and Business plans are purchased and billed entirely through the Apple App
Store or Google Play Store — Rosterbook never sees your payment details.
Purchase failed
Often caused by a payment issue on your Apple ID/Google account, a network hiccup, or the purchase
being cancelled partway. Check your App Store/Play Store payment method is valid and try again.
Nothing to restore
Shown when tapping "Restore purchases" and no active subscription is found for your Apple ID/Google
account. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID/Google account used to originally purchase
the plan.
I upgraded but the app still shows the old plan.
There can be a short delay (usually a few seconds) while the purchase is confirmed with the app
store and applied to your account. If it's still not reflected after a few minutes, try "Restore
purchases" under Settings → Subscription, or contact us.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings —
not inside Rosterbook. Refunds are handled directly by Apple or Google under their own policies; we
aren't able to issue refunds ourselves.
Notifications
I'm not getting check-in/report alerts.
Make sure notification permission is granted (device Settings → Apps → Rosterbook → Notifications),
that battery-optimisation settings for the app aren't blocking background delivery, and that you're
signed in on the device you expect alerts on. Notifications aren't sent to devices you're no longer
signed in on.
Payroll & exports
How do monthly payslips work?
Each month, generate a report per employee, review hours/pay (full-month or pro-rated for mid-month
joiners), deduct any outstanding advances, then approve it. You can export a PDF payslip on any
plan, and Excel/Tally exports on Business.
An export (PDF/Excel/Tally) isn't downloading.
Check your connection and that you have enough free storage on your device. If it still fails,
retry after a minute — large exports for many employees can occasionally time out on slow
connections — and contact us if the problem repeats.
Account & data
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings (or your Profile) inside the app and choose "Delete account." Employers' own business
records are retained as needed for their legal/record-keeping obligations; staff keep their own
history as described in our Privacy Policy.
How is my location used?
Only at the moment you check in or out, to confirm you're at the assigned work site — Rosterbook
never tracks location in the background. See our Privacy Policy for
full details.
Which languages are supported?
English and Hindi today, with more planned.

Email us at info@rosterbook.in with what you were
doing, any exact error message shown, and roughly when it happened (date/time) — that's usually
enough for us to find it in the logs.
